Last October I posted My Hair “tricks and pics” 2016. I’d let my hair grow most of the year and during the summer had gone back to doing hairstyles I’d done years prior when my hair was long, plus created new ones. I’ve continued to let my hair grow this year – if it looks good I figure why not? It has to be in decent condition and flatter me; simply being long isn’t enough. These pictures help keep me honest since we often forget how other people see our hair which is from all sides; not just what we see when we face a mirror.
I kept doing the styles pictured last year but here’s a few new ones from this year too. Forgive the photo quality; these were taken in the mirror. And — the hair color(s) you see are all mine (I get asked this regularly). The lighting makes it look different from one shot to the next – my hair is very light on top (crown) and a lot darker beneath. If you remember (or look at) last year’s post, it is decidedly longer now. I’ve been having a lot of fun doing my hair this year.
As I am writing this post I’m at the library and realized I failed to take a picture of my hair as it is this moment, which is one of the ways I wear it most often, so I managed to get a picture now, by turning my head for a selfie.

Bonus picture(s): The following is not my hair. I bought this “hair” years ago. To be clear, I’m not sure what it is as it doesn’t have clips. Perhaps it’s an extension meant to be “sewn” in? (I have no experience with hair pieces or extensions having only seen them being used on TV.) Why did I buy it? It was inexpensive (a couple dollars) and color-wise it was a perfect match! I wore it only once many years ago at a public event where I was a vendor. Not one person I knew said a word about it. Funny that. I enjoyed my “hair” and it felt swingy but since it has no clips and I’d kind of jerry-rigged it, I did worry about it falling out. (It didn’t but I bet people would’ve noticed that.) I put it in at home to show you now.
NOTE: Likely delays in responding to your comments but I will!
The number of ways you have fixed your hair is astounding. I had a neighbor long ago who had long hair and could flip it up in various ways. I let my hair grow, assuming I could learn to fix it. I never learned, and I never let it get long again. Kudos to you for managing your hair in so many beautiful ways.

Thank you so much!! When I was younger I got library books (pre internet) that showed how to do hair styles like braids. I got more confident and started making up my own ideas and still do. Had I been around I would have helped you do your long hair!

I wish I had known you then. I was not a contortionist and couldn’t twist my arms and hands into position to work magic on my hair.

It’s hard to do hair in the mirror too; sometimes I find it easier to look away.

Wow…beautiful hair styles! they all look perfect! You need a lot of hair like yours to do such incredible styles. My hair is fine and I keep it a medium length curled under. Same hair style for years. Christine

Thanks! When my hair was shorter I missed having “options” – I like to mix things up. If you have short hair you can still do things like scarves, pretty pins and barrettes or just several decorative bobby pins together (if you have trouble keeping things from sliding out).

I liked them all – although I have to be honest and say that some I liked better than others. If I had to pick a favourite, I think it would be the High Ponytail – although the Chopsticks were interesting.

Thanks. Men tend to have definitive opinions about women’s hair, which sometimes surprises me.

This is cool. I was just thinking today I need to figure out how to do a bun or something besides a pony tail. Like a messy bun. I keep seeing that and have no idea how to do it.

Google it! All is online. (I just looked now; not only are there websites but there are videos.) Sometimes I create a “messy” style by accident… and when I try to fix it realize I probably should have left it alone in the first place.

Very creative. I don’t do braids much. I really should think about that. My favorite is the French twist, but I need an industrial clasp to keep it in place ! By the way, love your varied hair color, very natural.

Thanks V. The hair color is definitely natural – no color in it. Sometimes I use a big barrette smack in the middle of a French twist to hold it – it’s not “how it’s done” but at least it won’t all fall out. You can also do a whole bunch of bobby pins.

My hair always appeared to have been done by someone who was not looking.
