Short Thought 154 (mosquitoes)

I am extremely appealing to mosquitoes, especially the wretched Asian Tiger mosquitoes. In summer it’s so bad that if I get close to an open window – even a second floor window – one or two will begin batting furiously against the screen trying to get at me. The other day, I was seated three feet away when out of the corner of my eye I began seeing flickering movement outside. It couldn’t be! Could it? Yes. It was a mosquito, crazed with blood-thirst. It’s like being tracked by The Terminator in a tiny mosquito body. Except there’s hundreds and thousands of them. I’m a marked woman.

A friend of mine and I share the same attraction … bites well up bigger than 50cent pieces and turn red. Rubbing Bounce dryer sheets on our screens seems to help.

You too?! I’ve never heard of anybody else having them at their window screens. Yes, my bites well up like that too. Horrible. Makes me want to punch a hole in the wall when I’ve got several bites at once.

It was particularly scary when we lived in Central America – malaria, dengue, etc… now we’re in FL and zika is making headlines. Sheesh!
By any chance are you O negative? Gen and I both are, so if you are, too, perhaps our blood type has something to do with this.

Another reader mentioned that possibility in her comment too, but I’m not O blood type. It IS scary to think something so innocuous – and common – has the potential to really harm you. I can’t IMAGINE living in Central America with their mosquitoes!

In many ways, the mosquitos in Alaska were worse – bigger, bolder and they seemed to move in squadrons. Fortunately, they didn’t carry potentially deadly diseases.
