Short Thought 145 (The Bachelor)

I’ve watched quite a few seasons of The Bachelor and there’s a specific dynamic that occurs regularly. A suitor is harangued by the Bachelor (or Bachelorette) for not “opening up” and not “sharing their feelings.” This goes on for a period of weeks. Then finally said suitor opens up, shares their feelings and declares their love. What happens next? To their invariable surprise, the would-be paramour is promptly given the boot.

I speculate there’s a lesson in there somewhere.

I like that. On the show it seems like the Bachelor or Bachelorette says those things (i.e., you’re not sharing your feelings and so on) when they’re really not that into the person. Which could also happen in life I’m thinking. A stalling tactic.

What’s interesting is that this dynamic plays out with both genders on the show. They might as well play the Jaws theme music any time someone is told they don’t share their feelings and open up.
