Hey Big Boy!

This fella was in a California-grown carton I bought at the grocery store last week. I have never in my life seen a strawberry quite that size. It’s like a small apple. I’m sure it was grown in a perfectly natural, healthy way. I hope I don’t grow fins or something after I eat it.

LOL, these are grown in my home town of Santa Maria CA. They are massive dudes, but not tremendously sweet. I’ve been eating them for years and so far, other than developing a weird sense of humor, no gills or other appendages have sprung up.

Mr. Callaghan, the strawberry informs me he is deeply offended by this grievous and outrageous character assassination, and as he has not yet been eaten, would like to be over-nighted to Canada so that he might kick your presumably dairy-and-meat-eating (his words not mine), ass.

I can almost bet you that it didn’t taste as good as a normal sized strawberry. I found that’s always the same – if you get something bigger than it should be (i.e. Big Mac, Ice Cream Sundae, Foot-long hot dog) it’s NEVER as good as it’s normal sized cousin.

I would have saddled it up and entered it next weekend’s Kentucky Derby, Colette! You said it actually tasted OK? I’m surprised. Those big bruisers usually taste below average with too-firm texture to boot.

They could call it “Strawberry Fields” – good horse name, no? Experience made me expect bland & tough, you’re right, and I even held off trying it. But it was good!
