Short Thought 118 (perfect)

I’m pretty sure nobody gets a perfect life, or a perfect year, or a perfect month but sometimes a day comes close, and most of us can have perfect moments. When one comes along, I try to remember to sit up and pay attention, to revel and savor it, and to capture details for future reminiscence. So that in my mind, there’s this little file storage of moments I can retrieve and recall: yes, I was there, that happened in that moment, and it was perfect.

Such moments come as grace to me, a gift that suffuses me with gratitude. And I try, paradoxically, to make them return, or effect them in others’ lives. Spreading the wealth around, or trying to….Can one work at making grace revisit?

Yes, I am grateful for the perfect moments; they make me go, “Yes, this is life. This is what all the other stuff leads to if you’re paying attention.” I don’t know about bringing perfect moments to others… I believe powerfully in our ability to affect, influence, challenge, motivate, calm, energize, soothe, and please other people – but I suspect the cumulation of their own experiences creates what would be a perfect moment for them.

Oh God, Writerinsoul I could say so much on the subject but I would worry that the wrong people might reading it. Its a little raw for me at the moment. It is one thing to find the light at the end of a long tunnel for yourself, but then to see your own son set off down another long dark tunnel of his own and you know you can’t say or do anything because you know you will make matter worse. A perfect life comes with a price, it seems.

Maybe this is something you could write a post about,if you did it somewhat indirectly?

I would be devastated to watch my children have a bad time of it, especially if they went the wrong way willingly. However, I have resolved this by not having children!

I wasn’t planning on having children even though I was married eight years before my son put in appearance 🙂 He’s all grown up and is happy but I can’t see it myself if you are taking pills to make you happy. 😦

I hope your mental file box of perfect moments becomes increasingly more full, Colette. Your approach for relishing them later is a good one. Don’t let them fly past without recognition, indeed.

I’m lucky my mind is hanging onto the memories I’ve got! Although I really do think stopping & taking note seals in the memory/moment. (Sort of like when I bash into something and, knowing it will later be a mystery bruise – how did I get this?? – I say to myself: “Try to remember doing this.”)

I think we’re getting to an age, Colette, where it’s easier to accept that some things in life are feeling pretty perfect. As I get older, I’m somehow looking to find more joy and peace and contentment … therefore I am. Do you know what I mean?

Yes, absolutely. I know what’s available to me by this point in time and I understand so well it is about where you put your focus and your willingness to be pleased. Many things delight me. I get that this is my life, not something around the next bend, and I damn well better sit up, take notice, and enjoy when I can.

Oh yes! If you don’t concretely stop and think, sometimes things are later a blur. A good blur but a blur nonetheless. I had a moment this past week where it was warm and the wind was blowing (kinda magical) and I just stopped on the sidewalk, close my eyes a moment and felt it. So now I remember that specific moment when everything felt right.
